Nissan Sentra and Altima Win IIHS Safety Awards

2021 Nissan Altima Safety | Avenue Nissan | Toronto, ON

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is a leader in the safety industry, so when it hands out crash-test awards, you should pay attention. The 2021 Nissan Altima and 2021 Nissan Sentra were recently awarded the title of IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and IIHS Top Safety Pick respectively, after each model introduced advanced headlight technology.

For the 2021 model year, the Altima comes standard with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive and the Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of safety technologies. The Altima also comes with standard High Beam Assist, which is what helped it earn the IIHS’s highest Top Safety Pick+ crash-test rating. Since 2013, the Altima has earned either a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award each year.

The Sentra also received improvements to its optional thin projector LED headlights, which come standard on the Sentra SR trim with Premium Package. With these headlights, the Sentra qualifies for Top Safety Pick. It also comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360.

11 models in Canada will offer Nissan Safety Shield as standard. It offers six active safety technologies, including:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • High Beam Assist
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Rear Automatic Braking
